Adult and Child#
We take babies with an adult from age 4 months onwards.
Please ensure babies wear aqua nappies in the pool. The pool is warm (between 29.5 and 31.5 C) but you may wish to purchase a baby wetsuit from our trusted partners to keep your baby comfortable.
The middle changing room has 2 changing tables. Mats are available in the other
You are guided on how to support your baby in the water for a relaxed, safe and enjoyable session.
We concentrate on building water confidence through play and songs. Lessons are structured to work on different water skills e.g. blowing, kicking.
With the emphasis on making your baby feel at ease in the water, you can also take advantage of the many other benefits an active lifestyle will bring as a result of swimming. For instance, improved co-ordination skills, develop social skills and improvements in eating and sleeping patterns.
We fully recommend that you take to the water with your child from an early age, this will help you capture memories that will last a lifetime and allow your child the chance to embrace swimming as a skill when it feels emotionally and physically able.
Preschoolers with an Adult#
For those children turning 3 but wanting to keep a helping hand they already trust (parent/carer). We follow the preschool framework (duclkings).
Lessons last 30 minutes and it involves structured play for the child that is developing their water confidence and developing his/her skills towards swimming independently. Other skills such as floating, rotation, aquatic breathing and kicking are developed with the comfort of their trusted adult in the water with them.
Preschoolers Unaccompanied#
We take children from 3.5 years old and above or children who have been in our adult and child lessons and we feel they are ready for the unaccompanied stage.
Lessons last 30 minutes with a maximum of 5 children in a class per teacher. This gives a sense of comfort to the nervous ones who might be taking to the water for the first time. Whilst working in the water the teacher can communicate directly with the children and can demonstrate easily the practices that need to be mastered.
Informal learning and structured play is introduced until the child feels confident in the water. Flotation skills are developed along with body movements, rotation and blowing bubbles to encourage aquatic breathing and coordination skills.
Stage 1 and 2#
Depending on the skill progress, some preschoolers could be moving from the Duckling awards to the Stage 1 and 2 from the Swim England Learn to swim program.
We follow the Swim England Learn to Swim national teaching plan stages 1 and 2.
Swimming is more than a sport, it is life saving skill that can enhance the lives of all those that embrace it.
