Swim England Learn to Swim is an all-inclusive programme developed to ensure swimming lessons for all ages are delivered to high and consistent standard. It starts with the basics like the first splash to developing confidence and competence in the water. If taken to an advanced level it includes skills for sports such as water polo, diving or synchronised swimming.

The Learn to Swim Programme includes:

    • Our Adult and child lessons follow the Discovery Ducklings 1-4 skills.

    • Our Preschoolers with or without an adult follow the Ducklings 1-4 skills.

  2. Learn to Swim Framework – This Framework is made up of the seven stages of learning to swim, which develop confident and able swimmers using fun and enjoyment to engage learners.

    • Depending on ability, our preschoolers can also start working on their Learn to Swim Stage 1 and 2.
  3. Aquatic Skills Framework – This Framework is made up of three advanced stages, from eight to ten. These build sport specific skills for the other aquatic disciplines, Water Polo, Diving and Synchronised Swimming.

  4. Adult Swimming Framework – This Framework is suitable for older teenagers and adults of all ages and aims to improve confidence and technique, whatever their swimming ability.

Fun and Games with the Learn to Swim Framework

The easiest way for a child to learn a new skill is through fun and games. This Framework still has a high focus on having fun and enjoying being in the water.

It takes a games-led approach to learning to swim, and gives the core aquatic skills needed to become competent swimmers. These are:

Entry Exits Floatation and Balance Rotation and Orientation Streamlining Aquatic Breathing Travel and Coordination Water Safety Health and Fitness By learning and then mixing together these skills, a child will be able to understand the processes needed to swim all of the four strokes; front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.
